If you're looking for that rugged, almost untouched wilderness of the US Southwest, Utah is the place to be. With the land abundant of fantastic land and rock formations, rivers, and deserts, you'd be surprised at how calm and beautiful the Beehive State is. Whether you're a local or from another state, this place doesn't lack places and activities to see and do. Here are some places you should visit when you're on a Utah Road Trip. Get ready for some great Southwest adventure!
Antelope Canyon
You've probably seen this place before in books and postcards even if you have no idea what or where it is. But it is much better if you're going to include this place in your Utah Road Trip itinerary. Its famous light beams seeping through from above is what makes the place famous, creating dramatic rays that have been captured on camera millions of times. This site is a very touristy place so there may be lots of people by the time you visit. The Antelope Canyon is in the eastern part of Page, Arizona. To get there, take the I-15 then I-98 if you're coming from the North.
Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge
If you and your companions are bird lovers, then this place should be included in your list. The Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge is a 75,000-acre wildlife refuge that sits on a component of the Great Salt Lake. Because of its position, more than 70 migratory birds fly this way yearly to rest, feed, and nest. There's going to be different bird species coming in every season so you can always find a new one each visit. You can choose to take the autoroute that encircles the lakes, but you can also use your car. To get there, take the 2168-2224 W Forest St in Brigham, UT.
Goblin Valley
Having a road trip on planet Mars might be a thing 100 years from now. But for now, Goblin Valley is the next best thing you can get to having a terrestrial experience. There are no Martians in this place (thankfully), but you'd be leaving awed with hundreds of hoodoos you'll find in this state park. Getting there might be a challenge, but it's going to be all worth it. The Goblin Valley is 15-20 minutes off of UT 24. When you visit, prepare $15 for the park's entrance fee.
Red Canyon
If you've been to Disneyland and experienced the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, the Red Canyon looks like it. Only that the Red Canyon is real. As a matter of fact, this is where the inspiration for the ride came from. Getting there is already a pleasant drive with its God-given views. When in Red Canyon, you can check out their Visitor Center for more information about the place. If you have enough time, take a hike around the area. If you're in a hurry, you can always take a photo and continue with your trip. Take the Scenic Byway 12 to get there.
Salt Lake City
Now let's get out of the state parks and back to the city. The last on our list of places to visit on your Utah Road Trip is Salt Lake City. Once there, you can visit the Great Salt Lake, head out to Antelope Island for some swimming and grilling, take a hike at Buffalo point to watch the sunset, and end the day at the city center for some dining. Salt Lake City is a 6-hour drive from Las Vegas, 8 from Denver, and 10 hours away from Albuquerque.
